National Nanny Recognition Week (NNRW) is an annual celebration dedicated to showing appreciation for the incredible nannies who play a vital role in shaping our children's lives and supporting families worldwide. In 2023, NNRW is set to take place from September 24th to September 30th. This weeklong event acknowledges nannies' hard work and dedication and allows parents to express their gratitude. In this blog post, we will delve into the history of NNRW, discuss ways parents can recognize their nannies, explore how nannies can support each other within their community, and highlight some of the exciting events that will take place during this special week.
The History of National Nanny Recognition Week
National Nanny Recognition Week has been observed annually since 1998, thanks to the efforts of several professional nanny organizations and associations, such as the National Association of Nannies (NAN). The primary goal of NNRW is to raise awareness about the important role nannies play in the lives of families and the significance of their contributions. Twenty-five years ago, 1,000 nannies marched to the capitol steps in Washington, D.C., and the movement started.
Over the years, NNRW has evolved into an international celebration, gaining recognition and participation from parents, nanny agencies, and communities across the United States. It serves as a reminder of the dedication and commitment exhibited by nannies in nurturing, educating, and caring for the children entrusted to them.
Ways Parents Can Recognize Their Nannies
Express Gratitude: One of the simplest yet most meaningful ways to recognize your nanny's hard work is by expressing your gratitude through heartfelt words. A handwritten note or a sincere conversation can go a long way in showing your appreciation.
Gifts and Tokens of Appreciation: Consider gifting your nanny a thoughtful present* or token of appreciation. It could be a bouquet, a gift card* to their favorite store, or a customized item* with sentimental value.
Extra Paid Time Off: If possible, offer your nanny some extra paid time off during NNRW to acknowledge their dedication and allow them to relax and recharge.
Organize a Celebration: Host a special celebration or dinner in honor of your nanny. Invite friends and family to join the festivities and let your nanny know how much they mean to your family.
Public Recognition: Share your appreciation publicly on social media, local newspapers, or community bulletin boards to inform others about your fantastic nanny's contributions.

Supporting Nannies in the Community
Nannies can also play a pivotal role in supporting each other within their community. Here are some ways nannies can come together and make a difference:
Nanny Support Groups: Join or create local nanny support groups where nannies can share their experiences, exchange tips, and provide emotional support to one another.
Mentorship Programs: Experienced nannies can mentor newcomers, offering guidance and helping them navigate the profession's challenges.
Training and Workshops: Organize or participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices in child care.
Volunteer and Charity Work: Nannies can contribute to their community by participating in charity events and fundraisers or volunteering to help those in need.
NNRW 2023 Events
During National Nanny Recognition Week 2023, various events and activities will occur nationwide and internationally to celebrate and honor nannies. Some of the highlights include:
Nanny Appreciation Luncheons: Many cities will host luncheons where nannies can come together, enjoy a meal, and be recognized for their hard work.
Educational Workshops: Nanny agencies and organizations will offer workshops on child development, safety, and self-care to help nannies improve their skills.
Community Outreach Programs: Nannies can participate in community outreach programs to give back to local neighborhoods and make a positive impact.
